Doing Your Best, Even When Life Happens
We all have goals—things we aspire to be and achieve. Whether it’s in our personal, professional, or spiritual lives, we often strive for improvement. However, staying consistent with the habits that help us reach these goals can be difficult, especially when life gets in the way. A bad day at work, family issues, or unexpected events can easily derail us.
But here’s the reality: life will always happen. There will always be something that threatens to throw us off track. The key is to stay consistent enough that, when life’s distractions come, you aren’t completely derailed. You can pause, adjust, and then get back on track.
Consistency Over Perfection

One scripture I frequently turn to as a mom and business owner is 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV):
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
This verse reminds me that no matter what I’m doing—whether I’m cleaning the house, cooking meals, or working out—my best effort should be done to honor God. But it’s important to recognize that “doing your best” can look different each day.
Some days, my best might be a 30-minute workout. Other days, it might only be 15 minutes, and that’s okay. The point is that I’m still showing up and putting in the effort, even when it’s not perfect.
Being a Faithful Steward

Another scripture that keeps me motivated is Luke 16:10 (NIV):
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.”
We are called to be good stewards of everything God has entrusted to us—our families, our jobs, our friends, our homes, and our bodies. This scripture reminds me to care for all of these things with diligence and gratitude, no matter how small the task may seem.
For example, taking care of our finances and home isn’t just about budgeting well and cleaning, but about treating our finances and home as the gifts from God that they are. When we remember that everything, we have is a blessing from Him, it becomes even more important to care for it as a way to honor Him.
A Simple Way to Stay Consistent

If you’re struggling with staying consistent, here’s a simple tip that helps me: incorporate scriptures into your daily routine. Find verses that resonate with you and set them as alarms on your phone. For example, Philippians 4:13—“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”—could be the scripture that wakes you up each morning. As the alarm goes off, you’re not just reminded to wake up, but you’re also reminded of God’s strength and His ability to help you throughout the day.
You can also place scriptures on your walls, your fridge, or anywhere you’ll see them often. These daily reminders will help keep your focus on God, even when life throws challenges your way. On difficult days, these scriptures can be the encouragement you need to keep going, to still do your best, and to honor God through your actions.
Let God Be Your Motivation

One thing I want to encourage you with is this: let God be your motivation. Motivation comes and goes, and if you’re relying solely on internal motivation, you’ll have days when it’s hard to find. But if your motivation is rooted in honoring God, you’ll always find a reason to do your best, no matter what.
From the quality of food you eat, to how you treat your body, to how you manage your time and finances, let everything you do be for His glory. And when you’re struggling, doing your best might mean seeking help. Asking for help—whether it’s for better nutrition, fitness, or life advice—is still a way of honoring Him because you’re striving to be a good steward of what He’s given you.
